“The Spirit Of Laziness”

Proverbs 6:9-11

Laziness is defined as slow-moving; sluggish; unwillingness to work; sloth.

All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. Whoever is lazy regarding his work is also a brother to the master of destruction. The word tells us in Proverbs 10:4  that, “A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.” God knows that we need rest to be able to live our lives the right way, and He wants to give that rest to us. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Laziness may reflect a lack of self-esteem, a lack of positive recognition by others, a lack of discipline stemming from low self-confidence or a lack of interest in the activity or belief in its efficacy. Laziness may manifest as procrastination or vacillation. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit. Paul says our faith is like running a race. He doesn’t say it’s like sitting in a meadow on a sunny day having a picnic. Our participation and consistent effort are required. Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder, and perfecter of our faith.

I come by this evening to let you know, when we allow laziness to dominate our decisions and motivations, we only end up serving a false god, and not the true King of Glory. Laziness is sinful and not pleasing to God. Paul tells us, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” Be blessed and I love you!!! JE
